Unless you have been living under a rock, you will almost certainly be aware that Debian 6 "Squeeze" was released over the weekend of the 5th & 6th of February '11. This is great news for Debian and great news for CrunchBang.
CrunchBang 10 "Statler" has been in development since early last year. The first alpha release came out in March '10 and several development builds have followed whilst Debian Squeeze remained in testing. Now that Squeeze has migrated from testing to stable, CrunchBang Statler will also adopt the stable moniker.
The new CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207 images were built on Monday 7th February 2011 using the stable Debian Squeeze and CrunchBang Statler repositories. Changes from the previous builds have been kept to a minimum. The changes that have been made include:
Chromium Browser (ver.9) replaces Google Chrome stable.
Debian Installer (gui & text) replaces the previous Live Installer.
Other minor changes and bug fixes.
A huge thank you is owed to everyone who has helped with the testing and development of Statler. The continued feedback from Statler users has been amazing and has really helped to make Statler the best CrunchBang release to date. Thank you.
NOTES:
Existing Statler users should not need to perform a reinstall, instead a simple 'sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' should suffice.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR UNETBOOTIN USERS: CrunchBang images will more than likely fail to work if copied to USB devices with Unetbootin. Please use the recommended method for creating USB installation media.

Yes, Hogthrob and Strangepork tend to struggling with the direct downloads. I think they have had their pipes limited from 100Mbps to 10, but the providers are not being very helpful/informative when I ask them for details. I think I may have to look for an alternative, or just distribute via torrent only.

Is it possible to install it via unetbootin without the grub problems? And does anyone knows whether if I update my pretty much non-updated previous version 20110105 to newer kernel version, will my manually compiled wireless drivers preserve?

@bozhkov: It depends on the version of Unetbootin. Different people have reported different success rates, hence the recommended method is to use dd as it is fairly bulletproof.
Regarding updating from 20110105, there really is no need to perform a fresh install, unless you absolutely want to.

thank you philip!
just installed 20110105 on my netbook, will dist upgrade it
..was thinking of reinstalling my statler desktop machine one of these days

Congrats on the new build! I will probably just dist-upgrade my existing installs, however it is good for the project to have the "stable label" for those who care about such things.
(edit) I got tired of waiting for CentOS 6.0 so I installed the new #! build on my CentOS 5.5 box... the graphic installer is very nice and I'm up and running no problem! This means that CrunchBang is now my primary business environment for the first time since 9.04... I'm not worried.

I can not download from a torrent atm (Comcast makes them slower than direct download)
They are rated the worst ISP worse than the next three combined
I did have more success with the last respin.

Agree with others, I downloaded both versions of #! ... for my collection of Linux-Distros.
Although, I just re-installed my #!Statler with r20110207 ... and I went with Xfce this time.
I am using the Squeeze (stable) repros+backports for my #!Statler-Xfce install.
I have vowed to stick with Squeeze (stable) with #! . . .
for as long as I can anyway.

I was wondering if I have to uninstall Google Chrome before I would get Chromium. When I did, "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" I ended up with an updated Google Chrome instead of Chromium. It does make me wonder if everything else is up to date.
thanks

it is up to date, the default browser and stuff is about configurations
you don't want your dist-upgrade to overwrite your config files
after you manually install chromium, run
sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browserOffline

Please see: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/99918/#p99918 -- basically the same applies. If you want to remove Google Chrome and install Chromium, enter the command:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get autoremove google-chrome-stable && sudo apt-get install chromium-browserHope this helps.

ok thanks. I just misunderstood.
edit: for whatever reason I thought when I did the upgrade it was going to uninstall Chrome and install Chromium for me. I get in now.

Well, I have a simple question as for the new iso's I have openbox-amd64 Chromium, and xfce4-amd64 - Iceweasel as default during liveusb session...
a) what is the point of getting two different browsers for two window-managers?
b) or I've downloaded the wrong iso for xfce?
Offline
Exactly the same as snowpine. Statler-Xfce now on two private machines. Having hickups on my netbook after resuming from standby. Just some things I have to adapt to. Claws for example is a lot different compared to Evolution, which I used before (much slower with imap accounts, too).
On the positive side, everything is just fast and stable and great.
What I noticed when using Chrome (on my i686 machine) and Chromium (amd64 on the desktop) for a flash application I run regularly (monster dungeon game): Chrome's flash version seems to be more 'compatible'. Anyone can confirm this?
Offline
@qbrick - I know that Chrome uses a built-in Flash plugin whereas Chromium uses the system-wide Flash plugin. Are the two Flash versions different? Flash 10.2 was released recently.
