I've never really had the patience nor drive for landscape photography, so I obviously have a lot of respect for your genre and all the work/prep that goes into it. It's a lovely collection, and I'm sure that everyone here is highly grateful to you for sharing.

They're all pretty awesome, but my absolute favourites are DSC4226 and DSC4227. The tones and exposure in 4226 are sublime, and I particular like how you've not taken too long with the shutter speed (the overly-misty water effect is great and all, but I personally find this level of exposure to be more "honest"). You should make a small print of it on some fine Hahnemuhle paper for yourself if you haven't done so.

4227 I like because of the contrast, mainly. I doubt it would speak as much if it were toned down. Just enough detail in both shadow and highlight areas as well. The dark bit in the out-of-focus area seemed a tad distracting at first, but it sort of has it's own bit of character, I guess (the smooth bokeh helps).

I'm currently at the office, so I won't check the Exif data till I'm at home later.... or you could just enlighten us if you want? I'm particularly interested in where 4226 was shot.

Thanks vrkalak! No the pictures are of northern California and southern Oregon. Home is south Texas.

It does seem a tad noisy, but I'm guessing it's partly a bi-product of JPEG compression? I could pixel-peep and comment on sharpness or depth-of-field or the cars in the background, but I've never been a fan of mixing pictorial and scientific value, and they're more than sharp enough to work as desktop wallpapers on most people's monitors. Thank you for the warm welcome, gutterslob. Your interest in my photos is greatly appreciated. As you can probably see I am an amateur...but growing! I abosulutely love nature...it's art in the raw. Taking photos is a growing passion and soaking up the nature while doing so is a double wammy. You're right about these being honest. I didn't do anything to them...they're in the raw. It just seemed only right to leave them the way I found them. DSC4226 is my favorite also. It was taken on the Pacific coast of southern Oregon as was DSC4227. They are both framed in my house and DSC4227 is my new droid's wallpaper. It is my pleasure to share them! Your idea for the small print sounds great. I haven't done that and would love to. Actually that is only one of your shots that I have added to my wallpapers. The first you saw before this thread was started (Scout_DSC-3884) {renamed it}. I have two versions of "Scout_DSC-4055" and three: Scout_DSC-4227-1 Scout_DSC-4227-2 Scout_DSC-4227-3. #1 (shown) is rotated, #2 shows the top portion with the light background. The shallow depth of field that allows for the top of the log to be in focus fading out in the background is GREAT! And #3 focusing a little lower down into the black are in the log. I love close ups.

More are in the making!

I remember once getting into a ditch that was being dug in sandy soil for a sewer line, using a Canon F1 - that will age me, and shooting the sides of the ditch. When I showed people the pictures they wanted to know where the "cliffs" were, no one believed they were shots taken in a ditch.

can't help myself because of your comment ... my wife is into all things Egyption so I had to make a local web page that we use as our home page, except for the images on the top left and right all images are click enabled - to go somewhere or do something!

and one of her favourite wallpapers:

Now in keeping with this thread's theme - your work, I have more done!

On the top I captured the bottom and top part of the tree to get two images ... and

the left and right sides for different affects.

Wow, Sector11! I'm speechless! Your Egyptian artwork is something else! That's so interesting that your wife likes Egyptian art. The study of Egypt was one of my most memorable, and taught by an exceptional man. Thanks so much for sharing!

Evening Sector11! Awesome! These shots are of the great redwoods of northern California. Unfortunately, my pics don't do them justice. The trees were magnificent.
