rabidjoe's files are compiled for i386. For amd64 installs, just use the "sudo dpkg -i --force-all wine*.deb" command, where the "*" is the complete package name.
I had attempted to compile Wine from source, based on the instructions on the Wine website and Debian forums, but failed miserably during the "./configure" part - too many missing dependencies! I'll be giving EAC a run, through Wine, and will update this post so people can see if just "force installing" the i386 package is a good idea or not.
After much reading, I realized the amd64 version of Wine (if I had even gotten it running), would have been worthless due to the fact that it would ONLY have been able to run 64-bit Windows programs ONLY.
Thanks for the work on this rabidjoe!
Regards,
JustCreepin'
[Update]: failed. EAC ran, but with lots of errors (in the Terminal, in the background), and the mouse pointer was invisible the entire time. Have spent MANY hours on this today...will try again later.

Just a remark: the only game i sometimes start via wine is IL2-1946. And that's broken since wine 1.3.8.
Terminal says something like "Failed to load \bin\jvm.dll" (from the game folder), so i think there's a regression in the handling of java. This also happens in Madbox/Lubuntu, so it's not your debs. Back to 1.3.7, which is just fine for me. BTW: Wine in Statler seems to be more responsive than in the buntus - at least it's my experience, that win-apps load faster in Statler...

I seem to have had a number of unexpected crashes with v1.3.9, so like yourself I'll be downgrading until the next release...

Works flawlessly on my machine - very clean #! build. Download winetricks if you need it and you΅re set to fly. Convenient while waiting upstream to integrate this in the repos proper - thanks rabidjoe, keep up the good work!
*Some people are paranoid (and with good reason). Like he says, if you dont like this, you can compile yourself or do some rigorous manual checking.

Hi, thanks for taking the effort to build these WINE packages. I just noticed that these packages are for the i386 architecture. Any possibility of getting them for amd64 machines?
Thanks!

WINE 1.3.25 deb for 32 bit compiled on Debian Wheezy can be downloaded here

I've never had any problems upgrading WINE by just installing a newer version over the top of the old (but is is probably better & cleaner to uninstall WINE first as the installed files may change between versions)
If you want a newer version of WINE than you find in Synaptic compiling from source is the way to go. It's not that difficult - just follow the instructions to install the build dependencies & then build the binary. Once you have built one successfully it's hardly any effort to update to a new version.
If you want easy just download the WINE 1.3.25 deb above.
