September 2010 Screenshot thread

Greetings Earthlings big_smile

Due to omns leaving us for a break, I have taken over the setting up of this popular thread.  We hope to see as many excellent contributions as we have had in previous months' threads.

Please ensure that you use thumbnails when linking to the larger image to help those of us with slow connections.  An example of the code needed is below (courtesy of omns!). Most image hosting sites will automatically generate this for you as well.

What kind of artwork will be on the desktop?  I know it predates "Drive" by several years, but I've always liked the Olivia artwork from the Candy-O cover.

That'd work. I'll get started on looking for a version of the cover that's bigger than a thumbnail.
What kind of colorscheme d'ya think would go well with that?

@Him - Once upon a time, I had rejiggered one of iggykoopa's Python scripts to download the largest image in LastFM's API for whatever album MoC happened to be playing.  I'll try to find that again.  Or, you could look on Amazon; I think they use the same image database for record covers.

Re: September 2010 Screenshot thread

@bobobex, cool I hope omns is doin ok, looks like you got things under control~!

@gutterslob, I like that new theme man.  Are you using the new murrine engine for all your gtk stuff now?  After using your old pixmap based stuff, your new gtk themes look a lot cleaner.

Re: September 2010 Screenshot thread

@cogburn
Yeah, it's the newest murrine (git-pull) but this theme one ain't as clean as I'd like. The embossing on some of the widgets (see calculator) is way too pronounced.
I'm actually trying to achieve total flatness + matteness with murrine, and it's proving way harder than I anticipated. ... bloody thing likes to emboss sh*t for no goddamn reason >_>

My dream theme would ideally look something like this mockup (yeah, I know it's totally against everything everyone else believes in, but I like what I like)
HC and industrial engines came close, but there were some usability issues and gummy buttons along the way.

Nice setup. A bit lighter than your's usually are.
Thanks for the pallete, by the way.

@pvsage
Found one at 500 x 500 px. Thanks.

I'll get to work.

I had tried this too but it was over my head (I don't have any education regarding programming) This was as close as I got...

Still August here ... but somewhere in the world it is September.  Of course if we believe Einstein, "time bends".

So for all coffee lovers, it's September!

I added some lua rings in one corner but I've put alot of effort into my GuayadequeConky in the lower right. Mostly thanks to kaivalagi via This thread and ADcomps little launcher script for the player buttons.

Well goll-lee!!  Them buttons actually look like buttons!  I bet a lot of people actually like that feature of the git-pull Murrine engine.

I'll have another look at some of the lesser-known engines this weekend.

I'll have another look at some other options later this week; there are lots of ways to get album art online that don't involve Python or LastFM.  Meanwhile, if you're really interested in this, you might want to start a new thread?

Me too! Thats why I downloaded them from one of those amazing theme websites..;)

But most normal snapshots are good to use when you gimp them from color to black and white..
