Greetings all,
We started to see some new Alpha 2 screenshots towards the end of June. I'm looking forward to seeing what you all have up your sleeves in July.
Keep up the great work

Another take on the desert wallpaper idea:
Wallpaper below. The original photograph of the Namibia (!) dunes is by Simon Collins ("FREE to download and use!"). EDIT: I decided to clothify it, to soften off a few rough edges... and enhance the oil-paintinglikeness.
Even in full colour:
The stick that I duplicated and transformed for the #! logo is actually present in the original photograph, stuck upright in the sand! So all the ingredients are actually "native", so to say.
P.S. Oops, still a couple of minutes to July here in the East Helsinki desert...

Oops I forgot, the whole world revolves around US time
This comes up every month. My Australian time machine has the joy of being GMT +10 so you're going to have to cope with it being a bit early

I don't mind it being a few hours early to be honest, it makes for a fun few hours each month.
Oh and I'm not in the US but that's OK.

Where's the green/red skull setup man? i miss it :D ... nice wallpaper :)
As he... she... it already consists of molten plastic, he does not enjoy the heat of a desert, not even desaturated dunes. Instead of that, he's having his summer holiday at the dark, even darker XFCE desktop of the laptop machine. (Hmm... Why did I write "he" and "his", again?)
In other words, one of these desert desktops resides on my desktop machine and another one on my laptop's Openbox desktop, while the latter's optional XFCE desktop is still haunted by the cassette skeleton.

Yea, s/he/it (don't say that fast) deserves a holiday.
You can type s/he/it as fast as you want it's not the same thing.

Only a few minor changes from last month. Mostly in colour. I might change colours again soon, I like this one, but I miss green.
Still using Zwopper's wallpaper. Best wallpaper ever. I wonder if there should be a version with the xfce rat for the xfce machines. Actually, I wonder why I haven't seen any wallpapers yet with the xfce rat.

Nice theme and icon combo in the 3rd shot, Dave.
Uhm... why are you still on Ubuntu 10.04 beta (conky says it was taken in May, a month after 10.04 official release)? O.o
Ubuntu + Xorg + Openbox seems a bit heavy for a 200Mhz Pentium to me.
What's the performance like? If you still want Openbox but can do without APT, then you might find better performance with something like Slitaz, I would assume.

hi gutterslob,
and if u want apt, might wanna check out lupu... puppy linux using ubuntu lucid! woof woof! (i dled it, but yet to check it out to see if it lives up to the hypeable innovation claims).
anyways, screenshots...
after updating my squishboom (my name for my crunchbang varient) from 9.04 to 10.04LTS, i decided on playing around with a few more gtk & openbox appearances.
got skype working again after upgrade. still going mad on the xcompmgr transparency on nearly everything (thnx to asigning 10 keyboard shortcuts for varying transparency-to-opacity). still comping up with mad ideas. still love to have a million things on the go at once. still not getting many of them completed in a timely manner. XD still love the crunchbang.
note the red window in a different theme? thats what i have things running as root come up now. root red.
so i / the user is alerted to the rootness.

I been having a fun time making this setup as minimal on resources as possible. Tore out most default programs, enabled the more bleeding edge repos, and install more lightweight varients of programs. Such as irssi, rtorrent, ncmpcpp, and others.
Here you are, my black on red laptop.

I must say I find that one of the best distro oriented wallpapers I have seen untill now, I like it a lot
edit:
my desktop cluttered:![]()

I should get a nice light ob/gtk theme that better fits the wallpaper.

The more I look at this, the more impressed I am.
I'm not really sure if it's a combination of your theme's base colour and the dark wallpaper, or whether there's more to it than that, but you've somehow managed to achieve a sort of RGBA transparency type feel to it. I'm referring to how your windows appear semi-transparent but your text appears clear and (almost) white.
Don't know whether that was your intention or if it just came out like that, but great job.
BTW, did you disable font-antialiasing?
Edit:
Away from home, stuck in hotel room, bored....

Thank you! Here's a retake on the full-colour version, size 3360x2100 (16x10), "oil on cloth":
A scrot, with the background darkened to value -20:
I personally prefer monochrome wallpapers, so I did not change the colouring of my Conky and Tildas only for the sake of this scrot, just darkened the background.
