I just installed CrunchEee, and I love it. Most of the things work really nicely. I seem to lack an OSD for the volume though, but for screen brightness, it is there.
I'd like to contribute to a swedish translation of CrunchEee, but I really don't know which tools to use. If someone could get me started, I can get onto it soon.
edit: it seems that the problem is that the volume hotkeys doesn't work, it's not an OSD problem.

Hello GuruX
Regarding the hotkeys, which model Eee PC are you using?
Also, thank you for your offer to help out with translations. Currently there are not any tools in-place or any on-going translation efforts specific to CrunchBang. This may change in the future, but for now, if you have not done so already, you might like to consider joining the Ubuntu translations team on Launchpad. Any efforts made upstream should eventually trickle down

P.S. Welcome to the forums

Thank you!
I'm using an Eee 900 with a nordic (sweden, norway denmark) keyboard.
Swedish translations for normal Ubuntu are quite good. I'm looking into Launchpad right now to see if I can help there with programs that Crunchbang/CrunchEee is using.
But isn't there stuff that I won't find in the Launchpad? Like the Openbox menu? Isn't that custom made for Crunchbang?

Hello, just installed Cruncheee on a eeepc 900, and I really like it very much, basically everything
running nicely ootb, specially setting up wifi took few seconds only on wpa secured network.
installed it on a 2gb SD card for the moment, install size 1.44 gb and have a dualboot with the
original Xandros.
only thing that had to be done after installing was moving the bootloader to the SD card with
supergrubdisk (on bootable usb) and now on boot up can choose between Cruncheee and Xandros,
being Cruncheee the default offcourse.:D
thanks for yr efforts

Right, I've been using Crucheee since, what... just nearly a couple of weeks and I love it! It really fits nicely on my 701.
I did change the lean kernel for the... unlean
and a few modification to get frequency control and acpi working, but, while I'm using eee-control, I get no osd for volume and I miss that a bit. Otherwise, great job guys, thank you all.

i tried installing the 8.10.02 twice from two different devices (usb stick and sd card) using unetbootin like i did with the 8.10.01 and with 8.10.02, i never get past the upsplash screen . it freezes and the screen is messed up. i did a upgrade to 8.10.01 and all was ok, but when i tried to install the ''eee-control'' it froze the same way. i have a 701sd. so for now i'm using the 8.10.01 with what ever upgrades it sees, minus the ''eee-control'' is this just me? what am i doing wrong. i tried the 8.10.02 in a vbox and it worked o.k. my md5sum is correct and the two devices i tried, i used the media check and it said i had no errors. is there a key to booting it. i tried default, live, and the others on the list just in case. but get the same freeze. i hope the post isn't to confusing. but i guess i'll await upgrade instructions too. i only did regular upgrade not the dist-upgrade. thank you for a great distro.

I have a similar problem. I have a 700 and the screen goes blank and becomes unresponsive when it gets to loading eee-control. I then tried the standard version of 8.10.02 and it booted and installed just fine. The wireless worked out of the box also, so I'm just using that for now. I'm very happy with crunchbang even if i can't use the eee version yet

I did post this on the eeepc forum but then thought it would be better to post it here:
I installed to an SD using an external CD drive.
All went well, but i do have one question. Does anyone know why my splash screen drops to verbose mode after a few seconds of the progress bar showing. It seems to drop out at the 'searching for files to boot' section.
The verbose output does not show any fails. I have Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu installed on a SD cards and none of them do this.
It's almost like the start up waits too long and so drops out of the splash screen. I really think it's some kind of timing issue.
I'm going to try updating initramfs to see if that fixes it.

I also have this. It doesn't really bother me, but I did wonder about it too.

Thanks pakman.
I can't say it really bothers me. In fact it reminds me of the old Linux days.
What it does do though, is make me a little more conscious when demonstrating to non Linux users.
How they love to see those gooey splash screens and nice user interfaces.
"aaaah what's all that writing and stuff? eeew it look like somethings gone wrong"
...but then it does look more geeky than other operating systems...kinda like the stuff they use on 24, or CSI.
Seriously, though, I'd like to know for my own knowledge what's happening. It might be useful in the future for diagnosing other problems.

Hi,
Think i found a solution:
http://www.linuxmint.com/forum/viewtopi … 46&t=18591
Now i don't have a swap but i did notice that /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume pointed to my Xandros swap on sda5
..so i changed my resume file to look at sdb1 (SD card)
The i ran sudo update-initramfs -u
Reboot..presto now my progress bar works.
Can't say for sure but things seem a bit more whizzbang too.

hello,
ive just tried installing cruncheee-8.10.02 on my 701sd.
I was installing from usb and so had to go through and boot into default as per the instructions however after the system loads onto the desktop i lose control and the desktop image is a garbled mess of colors.
i've been furiously searching the forums for someone with a similar issue and cant seem to find any posts so here i am.
i'll try redownloading the iso incase its somehow been corrupted but other than that im sortof at a loss.
thanks for you time and juicy brain meats

Curious, I just installed this on a brand new AsusEee 1000 - it's peachy except it appears the volume keys are not mapped. Is this something I should be doing manually or should it have happened on install? Other than that, it is good ol #!, same as on my desktop.

ouch... I'm on an 701sd as well and get the same befuddled screen on attempted install
I was mucking around too much and my tweaks have become destructive... so i need a clean install but I have discovered my 8.10.01 install drive has been trashed.. is there anywhere I can still download this version?
thanks!

Hi
First thanks all for all the hard work on CrunchBang.
I installed recently on my Eee PC 900. All working beautifully apart from one major problem: Random reboots. It happens purely at random - I can have no apps running - just the CrunchEee desktop, and it will just reboot without warning or message.
Previously I've had Ubunutu running on the same Eee without any reboot problems, so I don't think it's related to hardware.
I get no message in the system logs, nor does it seem to be related to performing any particular actions.
Another problem which could be related is that occasionally apps suddenly quit without warning - I've noticed this happening in Firefox, VLC and Terminator. No error message or anything - just quits.
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue greatly appreciated. I can provide any info from logs or traces etc, if neccessary.
Thanks in advance
Simon

I found a copy of 8.10.01 and all is well.
However after I installed eeecontrol and started it... it did the same scrambled screen as when attempting to use 8.10.02.
So maybe eeecontrol is the source of the 701sd installation issues?

CrunchEee 8.10.02 installed flawlessly to my 900 - wireless, audio and video worked from the very first boot. I'm also very pleased with Openbox's ease of configuration. I can add applications and make them menu-accessible via an intuitive, easy-to-use interface. Well done!
