This one might help some beginners to configure their crunchbang-system better:
Problem:
Downloads in Firefox will not be automatically opened in pcmanfm or other desired programs. when clicking the files in firefox' download window, "evince" is the only standard option. Executing or finding files takes some time.
Solution:
Instead of chosing evince, go and select another program. Go to /usr/bin and locate your application of choice. Typically you will want to choose pcmanfm to erase, copy or open your downloads.
Alternatively, go to firefox>edit>preferences>applications and connect "file" to "pcmanfm".
Now you can, with one click from inside firefox, open pcmanfm and open, execute and delete files. And eve more:
Additional:
Instead of using Firefox to open your programs, let pcmanfm take care which application to use for any given filetype! So "files" is associated with pcmanfm now..
In pcmanfm you can right-click any filetype and you will see "open with.." - options to open your file with preselected applications . If you don't like the ones in the list, hit "open with another program", search from the program in the list or type its name. Check "use as default application" if you like your choice better than the default one (e.g. I prefer to open my mp3s with vlc instead of audacity and prefer the image-viewer to firefox for jpgs)
So, if you click an downloaded file in Firefox now, pcmanfm will decide what to do with it!
I like this better than associating all the file types in Firefox when pcmanfm is already highly configured by me.
