Hello ..

...ehm... perhaps little too soon, but why dont you consider to make a simple alternative desktop - a crunchbang/lite/notebookremix,for example.
Some friends said - WOW, this is a graphical masterpiece, I want it for my notebook!

So here we go .. big_smile  : currently looking for beta testers ( no UI for config, yet )

Re: [python/gtk] crunchbang/lite/notebookremix

Sunscribed!

Start with a basic #! installation, right?

Is there any way to add a tabbed interface to that similar to the Clutter-based UNR, or is everything on a single panel?

Re: [python/gtk] crunchbang/lite/notebookremix

It looks very nice!

BTW are the launchers all user selected or will there be an automatic option that scans your /usr/share/applications folder?

Re: [python/gtk] crunchbang/lite/notebookremix

Look nice, ADComp. How to start in "no fullscreen" mode? Will it be able to use an image/transparency as background?

You could think of merging adesk-launcher with adeskbar, making it one app only with 3 distinct modes: bar, box or fullscreen. Ideally we would be able to change mode without restarting it. smile

- should work on any linux with python/gtk ..
- everything on a single panel, until now .. but maybe later I can add  a tabbed interface

anonymous wrote:

Only user launchers ( config file ) .. but I already have a script to scan /usr/share/applications

edit adesk-launcher .. you can modify some options ( icon size, column, label, .. )

jotapesse wrote:

edit adesk-launcher .. ( FULLSCREEN = True  ==> FULLSCREEN = False )

you know ,  sometimes I sleep, too  wink  .. But it's not a bad idea

Thank you guys for comments. If i have time this w-e ( but I don't think so .. )  , I improve code and add UI for config

# edit :

- about config / file  :  launchers => config , global config => adesk-launcher , look'n feel => gtkrc

- script for scan /usr/share/applications : http://www.ad-comp.be/public/projets/ad … can_app.py

- add a scrolled window :

Re: [python/gtk] crunchbang/lite/notebookremix

I suggest to add (if not already present ) "quit" and "reboot"

Re: [python/gtk] crunchbang/lite/notebookremix

Its easy to add them:

Is it possible to add the logout, shutdown, reboot options to the bar?

If you want just one launcher, create the launcher for "openbox-logout".

If you want separate launchers, create them as follows:

Logout: "openbox --exit"
Reboot: "gdm-control --reboot && openbox --exit"
Shutdown: "gdm-control --shutdown && openbox --exit"

yes ,  already present .. you can show/hide 'extra' button , simply edit adesk-launcher :

# show 'extra' button [ False / True ]
SHOW_EXTRA = False

and set command :

CMD_REBOOT = 'sudo shutdown -r now'
CMD_SHUTDOWN = 'sudo shutdown -h now'

.adesk-launcher_4_s.jpg

with  UI ( something like adeskbar-conf ) , you can change all options easily without changing code

Re: [python/gtk] crunchbang/lite/notebookremix

I have tested it out on my netbook and I really like it but I am to used to having a desktop. I would suggest making it so that you could set a background on it or using some sort of transparency. Have you looked at the clutter toolkit it is the same toolkit that the Ubuntu Netbook Remix uses.

Re: [python/gtk] crunchbang/lite/notebookremix

Hi craigh,

You can modify the "look'n feel" with gtkrc ( it's a very basic theme ). transparency is planned ( with cairo like adeskbar ).

I already take a look at "clutter" .. but it's has a very poor doc for python. Although main goal is not to rewrite "netbook-launcher" ..  wink

Thanks for feedback

Re: [python/gtk] crunchbang/lite/notebookremix

hello ..

anonymous wrote:

some applications only have one icon ( usually 48x48 or worst, 32x32 xpm ) and when you resize to 96x96 ( or 128x128 ) , it looks pixelated  hmm

adesk-launcher do not use 'user' icon theme ( yet ) .. only /usr/share/pixmaps , /usr/share/icons/gnome , /usr/share/icons/hicolor

todo : 1st time you launch "adesk-launcher" , it parses /usr/share/applications ( *.desktop ) and save it in user's config. Now you can add/remove app or change icon , all modification are saved in user's config

pvsage wrote:

Default icon for tuxguitar is /usr/share/pixmaps/tuxguitar.xpm  (32x32) .. But if it's include in your icon theme , you maybe have a bigger one

Re: [python/gtk] crunchbang/lite/notebookremix

Well, color me embarrassed...the tuxguitar mascot was my avatar on an amp building forum for a while, and I just assumed the default icon was a scalable.  Since I don't really play, I haven't actually used the program.
