Removed basic programs

GAHHH

Attempted forcing my #! to use python3 instead of python 2 by running

 sudo apt-get remove python2 

, but this removed all programs in any way linked to the linux 2.6 kernel!

Any ideas on what to do other than a clean install? (tired of losing my config every 3 months)

Check the contents of your '/var/log/apt' directory. The logs should give you a good idea of what was removed.

^ I once had Aptitude remove a ton of packages on my behalf and the logs were the thing that got me out of trouble. It was a real hassle though. Good luck with it

...I just hope you didn't `apt-get clean` before you realized you'd removed so much.

Whatever you do, don't shut down - the kernel in RAM is the only thing keeping you from having to reinstall.
