I did this just recently, but I forgot where I had found the information to do it.
I think it may have been here (doing the same Google search when I originally had the problem):

The man page for xset says you can see what your settings are with xset q and then you can adjust accordingly.

I installed lxinput and it works but when I reboot lxinput is as before

For OpenBox:
Add this to the very bottom of your OpenBox auto start:
# Speed Adjustments
synclient MinSpeed=0.1
synclient MaxSpeed=0.40
Makes it like Windows, but a bit faster. Adjust as needed.
