Hi guys, this is the obligatory introductory post...
I am a long-term Ubuntu user, currently battling the latest version of Ubuntu with Unity against a 6 year old laptop. Let me tell you, a 1.73GHz single-core processor doesn't mix with Unity... despite Unity being extremely beautiful to use.
This leaves me with two choices, buy a new laptop or change my distro. So, having met corenominal on Tuesday at Hull LUG, I felt driven to wipe my netbook (which ran Unity even slower than my laptop does) and put #! on it. It's really nice, but it does lack the smooth and polish of Ubuntu. But maybe I've been spoilt up to this point?
So, the next step it to build up the courage to wipe my laptop and install #! on it, but I'm not ready for that just yet.
Hey ho,

Hey Dave,
I made a similar Travel, but I switched from a Intel i5 2*2.5 GHz with 8GB Ram and SSD and
Ubuntu wasn't that fun anymore it was years ago!

It's up to you!
Try to set up "kupfer" as a launcher and a nice dock, maybe "cairo".
You'll get the polished smoothness back and some background knowledge either.

Welcome to #!
I tried using Ubuntu 12.04 last week, just get a feel for Unity. Granted it looks pretty, but it didn't really add any value to how I worked. I expect that after using #! for a few months, you'll find yourself in front of an Ubuntu-box and feel disappointed that it's not running faster...

Hi all,
Thanks for the exceptionally warm welcome. I honestly wasn't expecting that!
I am now dualbooting Ubuntu and CrunchBang, although I seem to be living in #! more, which is good.
I'm documenting my journey over here: http://wiki.thelovebug.org/crunchbang/ if anyone is interested.
I think I might like it here

Just for fun, I'll comment on your blog.... There are always a few tricks that Those Who Know passed onto The Clueless Us that could prove helpful.
