friendliness and an open mind

good people of CrunchBang,

i have just resigned as a moderator on these forums. since i feel that secrecy has never done anybody any good, i will also explain the reasoning behind this decision.

some of you might have noticed the DMT thread, which was recently closed down by omns. you may also notice that i have typed out some rather large pieces of text in that thread, which goes to show my passion about the subject, not DMT in particular, but psychedelics in general. i feel it is a very misunderstood subject that can greatly benefit from some accurate information and a friendly and open-minded talk, which was exactly what was happening in that thread. therefore, i have strongly objected to it being closed down. the interaction that followed this objection was, quite frankly, useless, and has made me feel that i do not want to be part of a moderation team that is willing to shoo away a friendly and open discussion on a slightly difficult subject based on what i feel is nothing but fear and prejudice. in short, i am too much of a radical big_smile

the reason i posted this in Feedback & Suggestions is because i feel we all need to reconsider how we deal with subjects that may be unknown, frightening or disagreeable to us. no progress in anything has ever been made by standing still. i therefore ask you all to keep a friendly, open-minded attitude towards any subject that may be brought up in this diverse community with all its different beliefs and values. don't let fear or anger dictate your posts. be respectful to the beliefs and values of the other person, even when you may disagree.

with all that said, i will take this opportunity to thank my (former) fellow moderators for all their kinds words and the good advice they gave me when i was once again unsure how to deal with certain issues - and thanks to corenominal for honoring my request for resignation in such a speedy and thoughtful manner.
also, thanks to the community for accepting me as their moderator and for being as friendly, open-minded and awesome as you could be.

i will now proceed to smoke a fare-thee-well joint to celebrate the end of my moderation and my return to the fun part of the divide tongue

And there are a wide variety of places and sources where folks can talk about topics like this. A forum based on a Debian-based operating system is not one of them.

I'm truly sorry you chose to resign, and personally I think it was short-sighted on your part. But like Unia, I hope you stick around.

I'm sorry to hear that rhowaldt, but I can't say I'm suprised.

Re: friendliness and an open mind

^ rhowaldt, indeed the circle has closed nicely. I would join in with the thanks already passed onto you by corenominal for all your efforts during your time as a mod here. It is my sincere hope that we can all move forward from what has occurred and I hope that you continue to be a vibrant and colourful member of the community.

As this thread has come full circle I'll close it now to avoid further confusion.

cheers
