How do you pronounce them?
I say Line-ux and Deebian
I read that it's more like:
Linnux and Debbian ?

Deborah + Ian == "deb" "ian"
http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/203525/#p203525
And Linus has said he doesn't really care how people pronounce "Linux" but in his native language his name is pronounced more like Linn-oos... so most people tend to say Linn-ux.
(BTW, I was joking in the other thread about xaos helping other people, and my wrath is not something to be feared
)
(edit) -- and I know there are varying opinions on the documentary Revolution OS but I think it's interesting if only to hear Linus and Richard Stallman speak...

There's been threads about this in the past here!
Apparently Linus says "Linnux", and Debian comes from "Debbie" and "Ian" ie "Debb-ian"

You should have mentioned that up front -- I had no idea sibling rivalry was on the line

Just tell him that Linus doesn't care how you pronounce it (say it like that, like you asked him and now you're on a first-name basis with him)

That could work.
Besides my brother sticks with XP, he's only ever tested live systems with Linux, so what does he know?
pah!

^ Oh, well, then his opinion is always going to be wrong, even when he's right.

That is quite true..
I used to hit him and run to my mum saying he was going to punch me when I was 5 but that is besides the point.

^ You gotta give us all the information up front!
"My brother, who only uses XP, says I'm mispronouncing Linux"
Would give an entirely different answer! Like pvsage says, your brother is just wrong on principle.

This place seems to attract them, typing from a machine named DebbieDoesDodos.
Anyway, you can't mispronounce Debian, you just forked it without knowing
LEGO won't be ready for the average user until it comes pre-assembled, in a single unified look, and glued together so it doesn't come apart.

Err yes you can and apparently I am not the only one.
In English with one B Debian is Dee-bian
Linux is Line-ux, unless it's Linnux.

Off the top of my head: rebel, nebulous, debutante, nebuliser (nebulizer, on this side of the pond)...
Linux is Line-ux, unless it's Linnux.
... finial, linoleum, linen, cinema, sinewy, mineral...
English. What were those Angles thinking?
