Hello,
I am new to the #! scene. I have been prowling the boards for awhile, reading all the useful information I can find. I'm a long time Linux user (started with Slackware and some 3.5" floppy disks), and love the simplicity of crunchbang. I'm not very apt-get savvy, but there's nothing a little reading can't solve, right?
Anyway, hope to get to know everyone a little better and maybe enjoy my favorite hobby along the way.

Hallow and welcome to the best Crunchbang forums ever.
In this city.

The best resource for apt is the Debian wiki, and of course ours

Yo, welcome aboard. Coming from Slackware I think that #! will be a breeze. There's a little getting used to, but it's just because all the packaging stuff is managed for you by dpkg and apt.
Critical ones to know are:
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get install pckgnamehere anotherpckgnamehere morenameshere
apt-get remove pckgname another andanotherAll dependencies are automatically resolved for you though, so you can just do
apt-get install gimpand it will install everything else you need for that.
and to get info about installed package versions
apt-cache policy pckgnameI rarely ever use anything else, but I don't mess with mixing versions.
