The Big Small Funny Crazy Weird Cute Stupid Insane Crunch-Dog Thread

i love my dogs. i got two. i'll introduce them here.

Ernie

Picture: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2qtie … TY2RVI4SEk

the first is called Ernie. the name was inspired by Ernie and Bert, from Sesame Street, because Ernie is such a great character. also, he is voiced in the Netherlands by this artist (as in 'art') called Wim T. Schippers, who, incidentally, did a theatre play where he'd just let a bunch of dogs on stage and that was it. i love him, and i love my dog.

Ernie is a mixture between a Shih Tzu and a Maltese. so, a Mal Tzu, or something like that.
Ernie is the dog in my avatar. his hair was very long there, and we don't comb him, so it gets all dreadlocked and stuff. when it becomes way too long we get him a haircut and he can go for another couple of months before looking like Chewbacca again. i do the same with my beard (only sadly i never manage to look like Chewbacca).

the first time i met Ernie was in a bar somewhere. he still had the pretend-cool name 'Diesel' back then. we were meeting up with my mother-in-law, and her sister was there too. she just got a puppy for her 6 year old (or something) son, who had been nagging her about getting a dog for some time. my mother-in-law was pissed off with her sister, because my mother-in-law has a cat, a rabbit and i think a bird which her sister once bought then decided to get rid off later. my mother-in-law knew the same would happen with the dog. this was already apparent, because the sister wouldn't even walk the dog, and when i got back from walking him and put him on her lap, telling her that he peed after some effort, she was disgusted and put him on the table. Diesel (Ernie) started walking around on the table, licking glasses of beer, sniffing in the ashtrays and trying to tip over the money-bowl they had for their card-game. i loved him immediately. he looked like a mongloid dolphin, and he was adorable. we (my wife and i) left, and told her aunt (the sister) that she could call us if she indeed decided to get rid of the dog. two days later, on Sunday-morning, we got the call. she wanted to get rid of it before her son came home from his dad. my wife asked me if i was okay with this. i just woke up, and said yes. an hour later, we had a dog, and named him Ernie.

Ernie recently turned 5. he loves to play with his rope, to chew stuff and to run around like a moron. he's the sweetest dog i ever met, and happily insane, which is always good for a laugh.

Toby

Picture: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2qtie … Vh3dnR3T2c

my second dog is called Toby. after a year, we decided we wanted a friend for Ernie, to play with and keep him company when we were away. we'd like a Shih Tzu because, well, have you seen those puppies? so we looked online, found someone with puppies, traveled there and had a look. Toby was the smallest of the nest, but was always at front with his front paws in the food, chewing away like a madman. we picked him immediately. my wife named him Toby, after the dog in Disney's The Great Mouse Detective (De Speurneuzen).
she went to get him a couple of weeks later, together with Ernie, so he could meet his new friend. Ernie was afraid of Toby all the train-ride back. we spent a week trying to get them to play together. Toby was interested, but Ernie kept walking away. then, one day, all of a sudden Ernie started licking Toby. his face, his back, his paws, everything. he must've licked him for a good 15 minutes at least. after that, they were best friends (and Toby looked ridiculous).

Toby is now 4 years old. he looks like an Ewok. he is scared of most things bigger than himself. he is also batshit insane. he likes to bark at nothing, roll around and push his face into things. he attacks Ernie and annoys the hell out of him until Ernie agrees to play with him. he is also fiendishly clever. when Ernie has a bone or cookie or whatever, and Toby wants to have it, Toby will start barking at me like a madman. he won't stop. i'll run after him, grab him and roll him around on the floor. Ernie will see this, and will want to play. as soon as Ernie starts playing with me, Toby disappears. you look around and there he is chewing Ernie's bone. this is just one of many examples of the tricks he plays.
sometimes when we're out walking, he starts to cry this really sad high-pitched cry, and starts limping with his leg. you'll think something is wrong. you carry him for a bit, then he walks again. when you go into the house, he is alright, running and jumping if you offer him a cookie. turns out, it is all acting. he wasn't really in pain. he just didn't feel like walking anymore.

***

well, i could keep talking about my dogs forever. if i haven't made it clear already: i absolutely love them to death. but it is time for others to share their own dogs with the community.

here's a final pic of the two of them: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2qtie … 1dSazNyNFE

Great thread, love dogs.  I'm at work, but I'll be sure to post this w/e when I can, with a pic or two.  I have 3 dogs.  Can't wait to introduce them.

Just wanted to get in here and show my support and appreciation for the thread.  I can't even view the pics cause security block.  But I'll take TitanMech's word for it.

Re: The Big Small Funny Crazy Weird Cute Stupid Insane Crunch-Dog Thread

Hey, look, I got an artistic pic!

tZHBpOA

The bitchiz name is Lala, like the Teletubby. It was my sister's idea, I didn't care. It's a stupid name, but it stuck. She's a Wheaten terrier, and doesn't shed, nor does she have skin glands, so she absorbs the surrounding smells (dirt and cigarretes mostly). She's also kinda R*th*ed up, as, unlike a regular terrier, she's affraid of everything (and I mean everything, lol, once she ran away upon seeing her own shadow). As I like to say it, she's retarded, but very sweet and kind hearted. Most of the time she sleeps, and you pretty much know stuff is alright if she gets about 20 hours of sleep daily.

I try to excercise her as much as possible, and as a terrier, she can take a lot of running and swimming. Which leads to better sleeping big_smile I mean, she's a great dog, and her mental "issues" are a direct result of breeding. In the 20ies, some Irish woman (an "expert") wrote a book on the breed, noting how only those members of the breed with a certain type of coat can be considered "real" Wheatens. The problem is that other types of coat are genetically dominant, so there's a lot of interbreeding. As an end result you get a dog with the right type of hair, but crazy (like mine big_smile)

Having a dog is great, but I've come to hate other dog-owners, as most of them are complete morons. The funny thing is how Lala has kinda noted that and mostly started avoiding other dogs. She doesn't even go near the ones on the leash (I do have a leash, but have no idea where it is, so she's spent most of her life off-leash), and doesn't really play with any dog unless it's somewhere on open grounds. She does love street dogs, and she's a total slut when in heat. Most bitches will put out for a period of two to five days - she's ready to go from day one to 21. I'm considering letting her mate, but am not sure if she's mentally ready for pups.

Edit: one more "action" pic: tZHBpZQ

Re: The Big Small Funny Crazy Weird Cute Stupid Insane Crunch-Dog Thread

That was a 20 pound log. She was so proud of herself. I'd tell her to drop it, we'd go a hundred meters further, she'd look at me pleading, I'd say go, and she'd run to get it again

She carried it for about two miles big_smile

Re: The Big Small Funny Crazy Weird Cute Stupid Insane Crunch-Dog Thread

@el_koraco...my three are all Wheaten Terriers!!! They are great dogs, and great family dogs.  Our one is Irish coated, the other is not, and the 3rd is from a mill.  My wife is friends with and used to show with Emily Holden, which is the woman who first began to breed Wheaton's in the U.S.  My wife had Wheaton's growing up and had gotten their first from Sue Goldberg, whom she has remained in contact with.  I live in the Northeast / MId-Atlantic region.  This is a real big Wheaton area.

Anyway, I just threw those names out there cause in the Wheaton community, they are quite well known and thought possibly you had heard of them or had heard the names before.

Pics and story later....I just couldn't help but to respond when I read about your Wheaton's.

thanks for the comments and the stories guys! really great to read. i hope the pics i posted work for everyone, they're Google Drive Shared so i never really tried this before. if they don't work i can try some other method.

@el_koraco: great pic and story and dog. very cool!

just remembered i forgot to tell you guys that Ernie's nickname is Captain Blacklip. because he has this black lower lip that will sometimes protrude forward and make him look silly.
Toby doesn't really have a nickname, except for just 'insane shih tzu'. he sometimes has this one tooth that sticks out the corner of his mouth. when i see that, i know he is up to no good. i blow him in his face and he rolls around and gets crazy big_smile

Yeah, the US Wheaten scene is much saner, because they're bred as family dogs there. Here in Europe they're bred as fashion accessories (a lot of people don't let them off leash, because they might spoil the coat and stuff), which is a shame, because they're really friendly and well tempered dogs.

@rho - the two look up to no good even in the picture where both are calm big_smile

@gs - can't take credit for the photo, I don't photograph. A friend took it, actually I made him, he was shooting the same street sign for one of his "collections".

Re: The Big Small Funny Crazy Weird Cute Stupid Insane Crunch-Dog Thread

Here's my beauty, called "Pamuk" in english, "Cotton" lol

aahmZbyk.jpg

She's a Westie, and very clever for some people who's ruling the nations. When I say goodnight, she's going to her hut and waiting me to close the door. big_smile She hates cats, birds, rats and some people who's afraiding dogs. She jumps about 1.5m from the ground which makes her very dangerous. lol She's 2 years old now. This was from her baby times.

Interesting things about this kind of dogs, they're very very jealous. If she sees me when I playing with some babies  (2 newly born baby in my street, love them both) she's gone mad, barking, jumping or attacking some people. big_smile Before this beauty, I got a German Shepherd. Somebody poisoned it. One morning there's no sound in the garden, he's lying there, a poisoned meat in front of him. Who did this and why I still can't make sense of it.

If this'll happen again, we can't carry the sadness. Some nights I can't sleep because of this.

Eren, that is so sad, i hope the person you did that to your dog dies a slow painfull death, or being struck by lightening.

Ive never been allowed to keep a pet where i live so i dont really understand the bond a person can have with an animal.

^ and ^^ Thanks and you're welcome mates. Very fucked up story, there's no difference between killing an animal and a human for me. But some son of bitches poisoning, beating or shooting them. 4 dogs now living in my small street. Before this, 2 dogs poisoned, 1 stolen. Somebody doing to us but if I'll catch him, I'll queer his own pitch.

What a great topic! Share some recipes, too?

Kidding smile

The dog in our family is Nelly, a Japanese Spitz, very friendly, totally harmless, playful and coward smile  She's not really mine, because I don't live with my family anymore.

Toby and Nelly seem to have the same hobby- mopping the floor:

Edit:

@Eren: I'm sorry to hear what happened to your Shepherd. The people who do this will get their punishment, believe me. Not because there's a God who is judging us, but because people like this carry bad thoughts and malice in their minds, and they bring themselves into trouble often enough.

But happy to see your little rascal smile

very good, very true. 'karma' is what this is sometimes called, but that gives it a lot more of a (unnecessary?) 'spiritual' load than how you just described the process.

i don't have videos of my own, so i'll have to resort to youtube... but here's what happens here regularly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcW0vC3vkIk (and imagine that Shih Tzu being Toby, and that baby being me)
and here's another one, Attack of the Killer Shih Tzu. Toby does that stuff, but with less running around because his other hobby is sleeping. he's too lazy for that much running smile

Re: The Big Small Funny Crazy Weird Cute Stupid Insane Crunch-Dog Thread

So a quick backstory....we have 3 dogs....all are soft-coated wheaten terriers.  As you my be aware also we have 3 daughters as well.  Our dogs are part of the family.  They are our first 3 girls.
Mattie is our oldest, she is about 12.  We got her from a mill.  She was my first dog, however my wife grew up with dogs, and the same breed too.  When Mattie was a pup, somewhere around a year, she was attacked by our neighbors G. Shephard.  She was okay, albeit, traumatized, and really never has been the same since.  She gets scared and a bit aggressive / protective when there is any kind of stressful situation for her.  She is a great bed dog though.
Stevie is our middle dog, she is about 9.  She is blind, born blind, totally blind.  Don't feel bad, she doesn't know any different.  Her eyes aren't sewen shut or anything.  The eyes balls just didn't develop.  We clean the area for her regularly.  At one point they wanted to possibly remove them and sew shut, but I said no, b/c then she would know something is wrong.  Plus although she cannot see, her eyes and eyebrows are still expressive.  And if you saw her in person, you might not even realize it.  She is also the alpha dog of the group, top bitch.  We took Stevie with us on our honeymoon.  She got to to ride the ferry from Cape Cod to Nantucket.  She is very well traveled.  She has been camping in upstate NY, been to Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Jersey Shore.   She is something special.  So sweet, so gentle, but fiesty when she needs or wants to be.  Very playful.  She does these little wheaten whirls when she gets excited.  They're like these little 360 spins she does.  She is name after Stevie Wonder.  She holds her nose in the air all the time, sways her around.  We can let her run around the backyard, take her on walks.  She just struts around. She leads the other two!!  I think she does so well b/c she has ultimate trust in us.
Ginny, our youngest at around 6 is our dippy doodle.  But I'll tell you she is so frickin sweet.  She is pure bread.  My wife used to show her, but those people are crazy, for real, so we don't do that anymore. Plus with the kids now, we don't have time for that.

Wheatens are very friendly and like to jump on people.  It's called the Wheaten greetin'.  That is just in their nature, how they greet new people.  A lot of people don't really like that, but whatever.  The dogs do calm down after a bit, they just want to say hi, and be said hi to.

Our dogs mean so much to us.  They also sleep with us every night.   My daughters love them, and the dogs love them too.

So if you're keeping score, yes I am quite the ladies man,  A house of 7 females, and myself.  big_smile roll
