I tried to do an expert install with the Squeeze businesscard iso, but it died on me very fast in the install process. There was an apt issue at the time, so I'm not surprised. I'm not in the slightest bit interested in installing distrolets like aptosid or siduction, or duping a Stable install, I only care about a direct Sid install. So, if anyone has been successful recently or happens to be in the near future, do let me know.

I've been trying too, actually! Still no luck. I'm (almost) glad it's not something I'm doing wrong.

Which iso's have you guys used?

Business card, Squeeze and Wheezy. I just installed Wheezy straight up, no problems.

I just used the testing businesscard ISO, and I'm still getting some debootstrap error. No clue what's causing it.

^ I'm getting the same debootstrap error when I try to expert-install sid. I finally just installed testing (from the business-card iso) and changed the sources list before update/upgrade.

Yeah, Wheezy is not nearly ready. New rant-thread coming up.

WTF, "no known bugs" and then such a crap?
I think 2MD's method is anyway the recommended one.
However.... waiting for el-cocaine's rant

^ does the net install have the "expert" option to go directly to sid, or did you have to install and change the sources before update/upgrade?

^ That area has the Weekly Testing build, which I used expert and took to Sid before the update/upgrade
It also has the business card too but I have not tried it.

^ OK thanks. I was able to do that with the business card iso as well, but going directly to sid still seems broken. Oh well, it's a small change to the sources list; not a big deal.

^ definitely counts for something -- did you just change the sources, or run one of your scripts?
You might add something to the end of this thread (or start a new one) -- other people will probably want to know how to do this...

heh, ever since the move to debian from ubuntu, i've utterly neglected my post-install scripts. i dont see the need now i can move up to rolling release.
... i'll likely regret this the day it all goes wrong.
ps
i suppose i should add,
sid does have a few issues for me at the moment. not tried an install from scratch, have been on sid for months. last i checked: tilda = fail. tint2 = fail.

Hey,
tried to install sid with business-card-iso i386 from testing (I read that this installer provides installing SID directly in expert mode ?!?)
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily … 86/iso-cd/
but could'nt even get a bootable usb stick for install
used, as recommended by debian,
dd if=iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M;sync
.. no success; doesn't boot (this works fine with crunchbang, aptosid and so on) ..

There is a new installer for Debian Wheezy, maybe it will work now, it even comes with Ext4 by default:

It's a dpkg issue, not an installer one.
