compton - howto adjust active window transparency with keybinds

Took a while to find the answer, but now I've got the same feature in Waldorf as I did with compositing in Statler.

For those who don't know - there is an installed script /usr/bin/settrans

eg to reduce opacity by 10%

damo@crunchbang:~$ settrans -c -o -10

etc

I've added this to keybinds in rc.xml ie
<command>settrans -c -o -10<command>
and
<command>settrans -c -o +10<command>

Re: compton - howto adjust active window transparency with keybinds

Excellent! There's a little more for the usage if we check the source:

# usage:
# by window id
#trans -w "$WINDOWID" -o 75
# by name
#trans -n "urxvt" -o 75
# by current window
#trans -c -o 75
# by selection
#trans -s -o 75
# increment current window 5%
#trans -c -o +5

So one could add keybinds to set the transparency for specific windows, or e.g. in conjunction with [Ctrl]+Mouse wheel. How I love Openbox!

Thanks for the pointer, damo!

Re: compton - howto adjust active window transparency with keybinds

Guys, am still on the old crunchbang, but upgraded to Wheezy, I am thinking not much difference between Waldorf and my Wheezied Statler - apart perhaps from Compton - what settings does Waldorf use for the script - am assuming there is a new version of cb-compmgr ?

Re: compton - howto adjust active window transparency with keybinds

it would be excelent corenominal add it by default in waldorf like in statler, as it comes with enable compositing

For more information on using keybinds in openbox rc.xml, see this How-To in the #! wiki: http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/configuring_keybindings

Re: compton - howto adjust active window transparency with keybinds

thanks Pidsley,

I'm actually now more interested in using transparency in compton generally (hadn't seen the thread on it)...but am just as confused about that as well...
