I thought I just open a thread in which we can introduce new software which has (just recently) hit the (wheezy/sid) repos.
Here for example is dwb, a light webkit browser (similar to conkeror, luakit, xxxterm) with vim keybinds.
apt-get install dwbHomepage: http://portix.bitbucket.org/dwb/
Edit: In case anybody wonders - the original thread was in Off Topic, and VastOne suggested per PM to move it to this section.

Good thread Machine!
Old argument, but SliM vs LightDM is still a good one..
Gonna have to check out dwb
SpaceFM is what I have been using as a file manager for a while, it is quite fast, stable and configurable

nice thread. quick question: how do you know about new packages entering the repos? is there a RSS feed or mailing list you follow or something?
Offline
There's a debian-owned page: http://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html
I suppose most go into experimental first.

I see no need to add "What's off the market" thread, but if you haven't noticed wine is absent from the wheezy repositories.

Wow, that's news to me! What happened? Non-free anyone?

Apparently the guy maintaining the package is not doing it any more

This made my 'must' check out list, simply based on this:
Typewriter sound effects <---
Not sure I'm ready to ditch my IBM Model M just yet, though.

Well, they are not working (at least for me) - hope that doesn't ruin your enthusiasm

Wine version 1.0.1-3.6 0 is in Sid
Wine Version 1.1.24-2 0 is in Experimental
I thought wine 1.5.3 was the latest unstable version, so should that be in the Experimental repo?

apt-cache policy wine

No worrys, i was only curious becuse i manually compile every new unstable version from winehq.org, and when i installed it on arch they have version 1.5.3 also.

There are two new games of note that have crept into the Wheezy repositories: Unknown Horizons and 0ad. Both show great promise and are pretty fun right now as is.

^ Great! Thanks for the info, will try Unknown Horizons later this week
Related edit: some other games: http://www.lgdb.org/list_games though not Debian only

Nifty, I have been wanting to give 0ad a try for ages. Yesterday, someone suggested I try openRA and I lost a good few hours. It's not in the Wheezy repo, but there is a deb on the website.

Dwb is just great! I think at the moment even better than all the other minimal ones like unuzbl, luash*t, pornTerm etc. It has adblocking out of the box. I even thought to open an entire thread about this little webbrowser when it hit Sid.

@IvanaNegra: what's your feelings about xxxterm? Don't say you tried that terminal emulator already

@Kwin hater: Nope, I know what you mean, as a Spectrer tester/user I already tried Xombrero, the new name of it and I found it the best before dwb. Text configuration is really great and not some Lua crazyness. But, no adblocker sucks and there is no adsuck in the Debian repos and I never was a fan of additional apps for adblocking. Privoxy was also not my glass of beer in the end.
Really nothing beats Fireweasel's addon for that purpose.
I only use my keyboard these days and Xxxterm's hinting mode is not perfectly usable as is Vimperator/Pentadactyl. Luakit looks and works good but Lua is a pain in the a** if you need more tweaking, though the basic things are easy. Never tried Jumanji with my aversion towards compiling except for DWM.
In the end Icefire is still the best for me.

Ah, DeaDBeeF is now available in Wheezy/Sid, no hunting anymore. Of course, it is in the Multimedia repo.

The good adblocker? All the cool kids use a heavily modified /etc/hosts file (MVPS) to keep ads where they belong: at 0.0.0.0
