[SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

Hello
I keep having a problem with Crunchbag. When i plug in my headphones in to the laptop I get sound from both speakers and headphones. been googling around for past two days but couldn't find a fix which would work for me. So i decided to just reinstall my audio drivers.
I went ahead and removed alsa. Still had sound. I then removed pulse. Still have sound.
No it feels like mostly nothing changes even thought I have removed those drivers. I whant to know what driver is my system using now, and how to fix my problem in the first place. After I find a fix I will probably reinstall system and implement it.
I appreciate any help and information))
Specs Acer aspire 5942G
lspci -v output

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05)
Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device 0311
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 22
    Memory at da100000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
    Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel

01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5600 Series]
Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device 0311
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 17
    Memory at da020000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
    Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel

Help please. This is the only thing I could not fix so far. I am enjoying Crunchbag but really need to get this fixed.

Re: [SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

hi drmoris, welcome to the community! not sure if you tried this already, but it seems that when you open up the mixer (click on the speaker-icon on your taskbar), then go to Preferences, then mark the checkbox for 'Headphone Jack Sense', this should work.

Re: [SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

thanks for the fast reply, but I don't have that option. it seems that both Alisa mixer and sound mixer only see master sound. so I can't even mute speakers when I plug headphones.

Re: [SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

Does your alsa mixer work now?

If you type "acer aspire headphones" in the search box at the top right, you will see a number of threads, including this one which discuss this problem. I had a similar problem (not on an asipre box) which I was able to solve by editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf.

If nothing in that thread (or others returned by the search) helps, please let us know what you tried (and any results or changes you noted in alsamixer or your headphone jack), post output of

aplay -l

and

cat proc/asound/cards

and if you have a file at ~/.asoundrc, post the contents of that file

and post the contents of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

I am no sound expert, but we'll see if anyone can fix this...

Re: [SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

2ManyDogs, the post you mentioned seem to have same problem as me(Alsa-mixer with only master and PCM) and it is still unanswered(( About the other post which suggests:
"open the volume mixer > check that the headphone checkbox is checked under "switches"
open preferences and enable the following mixers: Front, Surround, Center, Side."
In volume mixer I only have Master, PCM, Capture and Digital controls I can select. With the second sound card this list has only IEC958. In preferences I can only choose Master channel which doesn't give me any options stated above.
I will start modifying alsa-base.conf again but I don't think that will change anything. will post as soon as I try everything))
Also I am guessing I have to reboot each time right?

Re: [SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

Also a quick guestion as googling hasn't helped:
What is linux-sound-base_noOSS.conf for? It is located in the same folder as alsa-base.conf and has a listed of blacklisted stuff.

Update:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto    now I have master and pcm chanels in preferences. noother changes((
options snd-hda-intel model=acer   no changes. Countinuing
options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire    no changes(((
options snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire position_fix=1      no changes
Also I get this warning at startup: Saved ALSA mixer settings detected; aumix will not touch mixer.

Re: [SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

Sorry, did I mention that I'm not a sound expert? I was hoping someone who knows something would show up by now. Sound is almost as complicated as wireless. hmm

I ended up using snd-hda-intel model=basic to get my athlon box working. I don't know about linux-sound-base_noOSS.conf.

Strange that you seem to have two sound cards available (from your lspci -v and aplay -l output). Have you tried changing the card in alsa-mixer (use F6) (edit -- never mind I see where you tried this).

Re: [SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

What version of #! did you install? I really hate to even suggest this, but if you did not install the backports version you might try just booting a live CD (or USB) of that version to see if the sound works there...

Re: [SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

Get the alsa-info script from this link : http://git.alsa-project.org/?p=alsa-dri … sa-info.sh
make it executable
run it with parameters:

./utils_alsa-info.sh --no-upload --output alsa-info.out

and post the output of

cat alsa-info.out

Re: [SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

Very glad you found this topic xaos. If you get a chance, could you please check out this one (another sound issue) -- and I see you already found the other one (an ethernet/wireless issue). I have been failing miserably at helping these people...

(edit, never mind, I see you also found the other sound topic...)

Re: [SOLVED]No headphones jack sensitivity Acer Aspire

@drmoris: go for installing the backports version first, and check if it works after install.
Mine is not really a solution, just a means of gathering more info about what goes wrong.
