As you may, or may not be aware, I am currently in the process of building a new website for the project. This morning, I pushed some commits to the site to enable user registration. If you would like to register a username on the new site, please do so.
Notes:
The site is still very much in its infancy and there is no real functionality yet, but I figure some people might want to grab their usernames, before they get taken.
You will need an existing OpenID account to register your username. The following providers are currently supported: Google, Yahoo, Ubuntu SSO, Launchpad. If anyone uses a different provider and they would like me to add support for it, please state the provider -- if there is enough interest, I will see what I can do.
If you do register on the new site and you have any feedback about the process, I would love to read it.
To register, go to http://crunchbang.org, hover over "sign-in" and select a provider.

Ehm, I can't register my usual forum name (Unia). Do I have to add a number?

No, but only lowercase characters are allowed. Maybe try unia?

Hmm, have you visited the site before? If so, try clearing your cache. If not, please could you give me some details about your browser?

Registered with Google, no problems whatsoever. The method is infinitely more pleasurable than the usual BB thing of filling out details, going to the mailbox for a registration link and clicking. Nice job. Though, security conscious users will probably not like this.

Thanks. I have tried to make the process as painless as possible.

Interesting, this is the sort of conversation I was hoping for. If anyone has any qualms about the process, I would love to read them

SSO should be secure enough for most, but I think the people who use those ten minute emails for registration will be upset.

Yes I have tried earlier for fun, did as suggested and wiped all history to be sure to come clean to the party. Registered now

Well, as I see it, using OpenID will/should provide the first barrier to spammers. The second barrier uses an Akismet library which is queried when a user associates their email to a username. I am hoping this will cut down on much of the spam we have been seeing here.

I completely agree with you, I was just pointing out that one or two people will think you and Google want to kill their cats.

I registered with my (blech) google account without issue. (yay, I just gave google another piece of information about me.
)
What about https://www.myopenid.com/ as an openid option?

Ah yes, that works. Glad no-one has took it before me
But I might now understand how this works, but why can't I register using another email adres? I do have a gmail one, which I used to register, but I'm not using it anymore. (currently using Windows Live mail again)
EDIT: Other than that small issue I must say I find it pretty slick! Nice job

Good one, I will look into it. I am not sure why I did not include it already, maybe there was an issue I have forgotten about. Hmm

Thank you for providing this reason for using OpenID. I was not too keen on the idea at first, but now I understand why it will help.
I just registered successfully, but I had to change my user name!
