If any mod thinks this should go to the scripts forum, do it

How do I make such a list with music of my own taste? (jazz, world music eg)
I've used mocp for quite some time but still don't know how to get streaming radio working.
I copied and tried Athos' file and that works
, but I just don't know where to begin since the contents of the file are cryptic to me.

the file is actually quite simple in syntax. it is just a list with links to streams. the streams can be found through the Soma FM website. for example, here is the page listing the streams for the 'Secret Agent' channel: http://somafm.com/secretagent/directstreamlinks.html
so you could just see whether Soma FM offers your choice in music, follow their link to the direct streams page, and add/replace those links in the .pls file.

I just tried this .pls in MoCP, and I only see the first 8 links. Something wrong?
while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

On Soma I don't see any jazz, so I tried another address.
I put that in the file but mocp complains about "format" not being correct.

^ well i am not experienced in online radio but that doesn't work because it just links to a site, not directly to the URL of a stream. when i click on 'play now' on that site, it opens a Flash-player. nowhere does it seem to provide a stream-link for opening in an alternate player, only a .m3u file. when i download this file and see what is in it, i see this link: http://icy1.abacast.com:80/kplu-jazz24aac-64
try that one.
edit: ah, you can also just load the .m3u-file into moc and it works fine. listening to smooth jazz right now
also, pvsage, i get the same as you do, only 8 stations get loaded. no idea why, this is the first time i ever messed around with this.
edit2: fixed. there's a '=' missing in no. 8's entry. change the first to the second:

Indeed, I got that playing too now
I tried several other jazz stations, and this is the only one so far where there's a download pop up for an .m3u-file, so I guess it was a lucky shot.
I also looked at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PLS_%28file_format%29 to better understand the .pls-file, but that doesn't explain enough for me.
Oh well, one good jazz station already is a good start

@pvsage: nah man, don't give me too much credit, you could've done it yourself. follow the train of thought:
- it only loads 'till no. 8
- something goes wrong after no. 8
- let's check out some of the file syntax around no. 8
- hey, that one line looks out of place... oh, it is missing a '='!
- i'm really proud of myself and gonna post this to the forum right now
@catch22: good effort. really, it isn't that difficult. i do not understand everything about it, but the basic setup is easy to get. because each block is just an adjusted repetition of the one before it, you'll only have to study a single block:
File1=http://streamer-dtc-aa03.somafm.com:80/stream/1018
Title1=Groove Salad
Length1=-1File1: the link to the first file. in this case it is a stream, but might as well be 'nyan_cat.mp3' or 'wilhelmscream.wav' or whatever.
Title1: the title of the first file
Length1: no idea why this is, but couldn't care less as it doesn't seem to be important.
when you look to the other blocks, you see you need to have each of them numbered, so remember that when adding in new stuff. also, notice what differentiates from the pattern
numberofentries=21so, when i make entry no. 22, i have to increase this number to 22 as well, so it seems.
done, you now understand the syntax of the file!

Awesome! Works in vlc too...

LengthX : Length in seconds of track. Value of -1 indicates indefinite.
Learned that from the earlier mentioned wiki :-)
I'll play around with it a bit and see if I can get something decent together.
Main problem (to me) seems to be getting a correct url for streams.
