I hope they switch it, my eyes literally hurt from being on this site. There's a reason we don't write on black paper with soap stone IRL.

^ yup, it's because some idiot decided long ago that bleached wood fibers looked better than natural. Frankly I think everyone who agreed with that must have been stoned...or lost too many ganglia from breathing bleach fumes...
I think that forum members should have the option to change this though. Maybe have foreground/background colors selectable in the user profile?

This may be a short-term fix - consider it more of a "kludge" than a "patch" - but it should help make the new CrunchBang forums more palatable to your eyes:

EDIT: Frankly I find black text on white pages blinding, the way snow causes temporary bleaching of rod cells in bright sunlight.

Actually I think this might have to do with people trying to read dim graphite scratchings and India ink stains in limited candlelight. Today we have more options.
I agree that the forum looks like it would be almost unreadable in direct sunlight...

I'm not sure how that helps... but I notice that the "editor" has black text on white background.
Books .... black ink on a white/cream coloured background.
It's not my forum, I have no option but I'll be here for support only!

I've problems reading the white on black forums as well. The whitify userstyle is helpful. I started editing the userstyle so it will keep the header etc blackish. I thought this would be easy, but it's a lot of work to do it right. Here's the code i have now, but it's far from perfect...
But at least it only changes your crunchbang page and the header remains blackish.

You need the Firefox/Iceweasel Stylish Addon to use this!
Tuna.
Edit: I posted the userstyle on userstyles.org:
http://userstyles.org/styles/40195
If anyone has suggestions please let me know, i'll improve the userstyle.

@ pvsage & Tunafish
THANK YOU!
Actually I like the colours you have - works even in the "Editor" and easier on the eyes than the pure white.
I like the rest being dark, in fact it's a nice contrast. And fits with what someone said a long time ago "Welcome to the dark side.

I can't get used to this, I think it might be the fact that it's off-black but I'd rather just go back to white background with black text. Puh-LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZUH!

I've problems reading the white on black forums as well.
So where does one find all the commands available for that little plugin?
Can it be used on "multiple sites?
@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document domain(crunchbanglinux.org), domain(www.crunchbanglinux.org)
@-moz-document domain(someother.com), domain(www.someother.com) {

The 'commands' are common css style (Cascading Style Sheet)
If you want to see more examples, go to userstyles.org and have a look at the codes of some of the styles... for example: http://userstyles.org/styles/27249 shows you the way to add more domains.
Enjoy,
Tuna

EDIT: {blush} Thanks for the link!
Great CSS - something else to learn!
I'm getting too old for this ... that's why there are copy/paste/edit functions in text editors/colour pickers.
Maybe there should be a new thread: "Customize IW/FF Colours" or "Customize IW/FF Colors" if started by someone from the US.

Sure, but remember books - both typeset and hand-written - have been around much longer than the electric light; before Nikola and Thomas figured out how to apply electricity to practical use, most of us still read by candlelight. (I remember it like it was yesterday...
) Black text on white paper came about to make the most of limited illumination.
I'm glad Tunafish's solution worked for you.

Hey, I'm old, but not that old.
I do remember reading by flashlight under the covers and gas lanterns while camping though!
And it was you that pointed out the site ... Tuna supplied the nice colours.
Don't tell tunafish but I remember when "Starkist" didn't want tuna with good taste, they wanted tuna that tasted good!

BTW: I posted the userstyle on userstyle.org:

It's updated and now shows links underlined as well...
And another update: colors for online/offline status and new/closed posts are fixed.

I can only think of two things (which) might be one fix for both, I don't know ...
The Quote and Codes blocks - can they be made to show up. Using Midori I see:
