    Hello,

I'm French so my english is not super... I'm sorry ;).
I was searching for an OS to replace Xandros on my eeePC. I finally met Crunchbang and felt in love (Good job !).

So I downloaded the 8.04.02 Lite version. I was hoping to install it from a LiveUSB. But every method I tried didn't succeed... Here they are :

1- I tried a script named "isotostick.sh" working with Ubuntu 8.04. After many errors during the installation, I tried to boot it on my eeePC. But the USB key didn't boot because "linux" hasn't been finded.

2- Then I tried to do it manually ; copying all files of the ISO in the root of the key, and moving "vmlinuz" and "initrd.gz" to the root. But I stopped because the next step to do is editing files of isolinux directory. There is no isolinux directory...

So I have some questions :
    - Is it normal that I have no isolinux directory in the Lite ISO (I made a md5sum check that was OK...) ?
    - Is it because of that the sript failed ?
    - Is there a way to do without isolinux (without CD because there's no CD Drive on the eeePC 701) ?
    - Can I find the missing files somewhere for Crunchbang ?

I hope you'll can help me... And I thank you for that.

    Hi Foreynah :)

I do not own a Eee PC myself, but I know a few forum users do, and they have successfully installed CrunchBang Linux on their systems[1]. I have changed the title of your post in the hope that one of these users will be able to help.

    Cheers

Okay, thank you :) ! I'll ask help on this forum.

I'll post the solution (if I find one) or the end of the story (if there's no one)...

Hi , Foreynah ! I'm French too , but I used the non-lite Crunchbang to install on the SSD . I first used RiceeeyTweak to enable every eee-tailorisations , but now I've installed adamm's kernel and really Crunchbang boots truly faster now ( in less than the 3 minutes it used to when it was on A SD card ).
You will find tutorials on how to write an iso without a CD/DVD drive :
    http://www.instantfundas.com/2007/08/install-any-linux-distro-directly-from.html
Nimport Nawak is writing a how-to for CrunchBang http://wiki.eeeuser.com/crunchbang , explaining how-to install it (but only for Windows). Have a look at eeeuser.com , you will find informations there too , in French :
    http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/crunchbang
    http://pouvoir-choisir.org/logiciel-libre/index.php/post/2008/02/12/CrunchBang:-Une-ubuntu-sur-OpenBox http://leeenux.blogspot.com/2008/06/la-distribution-crunchbang-sur-eeepc.html
VoilĂ  de quoi faire ! But if you plan to experiment distributions on your eee , buying an external CD/DVD drive would be recommanded .
PS : Many thanks to you , Philip , your CrunchBang is a diamond . :D

    Hi Foreynah

I installed crunchbang using isolinux folder from crunchbang 8.04.01
It seems we can create Live usb from the liveCD after booting it on a computer but I haven't try this yet.

    Hi,

I come back to say that I succeded in creating a LiveUSB Crunchbang.

I copied folders that were missing from an Ubuntu CD. I created an ISO with ISO Master. Then I used the script "isotostick.sh".

After the installation, I made some usual modifications (kernel, wifi, hpet...).

NB : My LiveUSB is not persistent.
