    Hi all.

I just discovered Crunchbang. I also wrote the Ubuntu-fr Wiki page on Crunchbang.

As Crunchbang is a lightweight version of Ubuntu, I would suggest to publish (whenever possible) a specific eeePC version: OpenBox seems perfect for that type of device. I'm trying to install Crunchbang on an external USB hardrive and use it as a LiveUSB, which would be perfect. By now I didn't manage to do it. I keep trying.

You won't have to wait too long: I just did it. A French Ubunteros wrote a script to customize ou create a LiveUSB. The very last version of the script supports Crunchbang. And in fact, it just rocks...

Now on for the wireless network

The latest image is, http://crunchbang.net/pub/linux/crunchbang-8.04.02.i386.iso - It is a test image and is liable to change. There is a discussion happening on the mailing list at the moment. See, http://lists.crunchbang.org/pipermail/crunchbang-linux-crunchbang.org/2008-July/thread.html

The MD5 sum can be found here: http://crunchbang.net/pub/linux/crunchbang-8.04.02.i386.iso.MD5SUM.txt

I'm actually configuring Crunchbang on my eee pc
This distribution is the best I tried for this Netbook.
    I tried :
    - Ubuntu eee what is not really well fixed
    - Fluxbox on Based XandrosEEE but it is difficult to install all the software I wants
    - Enligthment on Ubuntu but it freeze some time
    - Ubuntu 8.04 but a little bit to heavy and I don't want to buy a Ram of 1Go
    - gOS but I had some freeze problems

I still have to fix the boot time, the Fn key and customized the theme and conky.
I will certainely make a tutorial on wiki.eeeuser.com as crunchbang is in my opinion the best distrubution based on ubuntu for an eeePC 701 but I wait to be sure all I did to configure this distribution works.

From basic Ubuntu fixes I noticed at this point we have to update initramfs to fix the /scripts/local-premount-resume bug and install Direct Rendering package to increase the performance under some game (xmoto).

I also use at this moment ndiswrapper to fix the wifi as it as better signal performance (trust me) but I noticed on Debian eee documentation a new driver madwifi use to enable it so I will see if it is better tha older driver generally installed with eee script.

Thank you for this great distribution

Hi Nimport Nawak and welcome to the forums :)

I have not got an Eee PC myself, but I would still be interested in reading about your customisations and tips 'n' tricks in a tutorial. I am looking forward to reading it. Please remember to post a link here when it is published!

    Cheers :)

    Of course :)

For now, I succeeded to correct most of my problems of boot simply by installing the latest custom kernel from adams : http://www.array.org.
I'm still looking for how to fix some Fn touch working and some umount issue with thunar but exepted that, my crunchbang installation seems to works perfectly. I beggining to write a step by step easy installation tutorial and I'm currently writing it on the wiki of eeeusers.com
I will release the link here as soon as I will completly tested my tutorial
Thanks again for this great distribution.

Hi , I have a 701 eeepc and installed CrunchBang on a SDHC card this afternoon . I downloaded and ran RiceeeyTweak.sh ( from http://eee.ricey.co.uk/files/eee/RiceeeyTweak.sh ) and now Fn+Function keys are working , together with OSD , and wireless connection . I really like CrunchBang , but the booting time is somewhat long , something between 1min45 to 2min would be better . I am waiting for Nimport Nawak how-to !

I forgot to tell that the wired ethernet connection works out-of-the-box on the eeepc , so you can use it to obtain a wireless connection . Really CrunchBang is a very good job !

Hi oupsemma, welcome to the forums :)

I am glad to read you are enjoying the distribution, thank you for your feedback and kind words :) All this talk about the triple E is making me want to purchase one, so far I have successfully resisted the urge, but this thread is not helping :D

I'm just trying the installation of Crunchbanb 8.04.02
The mount and umount of Usb keys work nicely now with thunar. Moreover the boot time is reduce due to the installation of initramfs-tools 0.85eubuntu39.1 out of the box tha correct /scripts/local-premount/resume errors

I Highly recommand to not use custom scripts like you did Oupsemma. Most of the correction are out of date or no more supported.

    All you need is :
    - to fix fstab by adding # at the beginning of sdb1 line
    - Follow the tutorial of adams on www.array.org
    - Add graphic acceleration from eeexubuntu wiki (Ricey tweak doesn't add this and if you try something like xmoto you will see the difference).

Acpi fix seems to works well with fix find on ubuntu documentation whereas the adams one. Only mute key doesn't works.

The tutorial will be released next week as all is almost fixed.

may I suggest a version for the MSI wind also?

I will be getting one of those in the near future.
much better value than any eee in my opinion.
but any netbook is good, I love this new obsession with low-spec laptops and linux.
I believe it is the way to go for people who basically only need e-mail a web browser and a little music :P

take a look at the wind corenominal, I'm sure you'll find it as irresistible as I do :O

I would like to know if there are another way to create a live usb key than the one I use. With Crunchbang 8.04.01, under Windows, I simply, copy the content of the iso on a USB key, rename isolinux folder, isolinux.bin and isolinux.cfg to syslinux and run syslinux -ma.
But with Crunchbang 8.04.02 I have to use isolinux folder from CrunchBang 8.04.01

When you are in the Xfce session , you are given this opportunity to install live USB .
Go to Settings > System menu > Settings > install live USB ; there you are , Nimport Nawak .

So I have to burn CrunchBang iso, boot it on my laptop, and after create the USB Live key...
I modified a pendrive script to do the works on windows. I just tested it and it works very well so I will release it with the tutorial.

What a funny thing to assume that everybody possesses more than one computer and should be running Windows !

This not that I assume, I simply want to add to my tutorial a simply way to create live Usb on Windows AND Linux.

Has anyone had network issues other than wifi? I have been using crunchbang on my dektop and love it so I just installed it on my new eee1000 and i can't even use my wired cable internet router to connect to the internet. Any ideas?

    Hi yeldarb

I cannot testify that this will work as I do not own an EeePC, but from what I have read you need to install a custom Kernel to enable networking. There are some instructions available at: http://array.org/ubuntu/setup901.html

Hope you manage to get it sorted, let us know how you get on.

Great! That helped a lot. Everything is running smoothly now but it's never quite complete; anyone know of a battery/power monitor with a tray icon that enables cpu frequency adjustments (the xandros based eee os supported the power adjustment button above the keyboard)? Thanks for all the help.
