The dpkg-reconfigure should work, would running the welcome script again help, as cups isn't initially configured? (I may be wrong though!)

Does the volume and mute functions work correctly with the Fn key option?
(I have the AOA110L, which uses the same motherboard as the AOA150)

I also have a AAO A150, and #! works flawlessly.

@pmjp: I would go with the kuki kernel, It's an older kernel version than squeeze. If it did work I don't think you would see any improvement from it even though it's built for the AAO

@qlue: I'm not sure about the mute key as I don't tend to use it. The volume functions work with the Fn key combination though. I'll try the mute key when I get back on my AAO and let you know (if no one else has beaten me to it).

Great excuse to have more than one machine, though...

I have to agree, I distro hop quite regularly, however I always come back home to Crunchbang. I just feel more comfortable using it than any other distro I've tried. It gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside. lol

I like the drop down terminals myself. There is one in the debian repo that I use called tilda, and it seems a bit lighter on its feet and has less dependencies than guake. (Just for consideration).

#9 Re: Off Topic / General Chat » Which TV series do you watch/like/don't like.... » 2011-05-15 20:04:25

I generally have the TV on in the background while I'm on my netbook. Although I do try and make time for movies mainly. Also the series that I like seem to be on hiatus at the moment and I'm waiting for any new series!

Here we go:
Family Guy
American Dad
Lie To Me
Haven
Game Of Thrones
The Booth At The End
My Name Is Earl
Blackadder
The Thin Blue Line
Spaced
Shameless
The Walkiing Dead
Arrested Development
Monty Python
Dr Who
Two and a Half Men

Some of thos are dead and buried unfortunately, but I always catch the re-runs when I can. There's only three that I can think of that I haven't managed to catch, but hopefully they'll get re-run so I can finally watch them:

Breaking Bad
Sons Of Anarchy
No Ordinary Family.

Thanks for the help.

When running a Session as dwm or wmii I can run nm-applet from dmenu and it works fine, even without a tray. It's just a matter of getting it to run at startup. I've tried editing /etc/X11/xinit/.xinitrc and/or creating ~/.xinitrc, but it doesn't seem to run anything from these files so I have put this on hold for now. I'm sure I'll come back to it at some point, as I've swapped distro hopping to WM hopping.

Cheers bozhkov...

Didn't know that, good advice... but:

There is only one alternative in link group x-www-browser: /usr/bin/iceweasel
Nothing to configure.

Not really sure what I'm doing with adding an alternative, I'll have a look a bit deeper and see if I can figure it.

Thanks anyways.

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered already, I tried searching but didn't find the answer I was looking for, or just didn't recognise it.

I've just installed the Arora Web browser in Statler Openbox, and I'm really happy with it (much more stable than Midori, and quicker than Iceweasel), however when I run the 'Edit Default Applications' item from the Settings Menu there is only an entry for Iceweasel in the gnome-www-browser and x-www-browser items.

Is there a file I need to edit?

#16 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » [SOLVED] Emptying the wastebasket » 2010-07-14 21:13:17

The trash-1000 folder was there on the External HDD, but it wouldn't let me delete it.

As of 2 minutes ago I have solved the problem, seems like it was a file system error. I connected the drive up to a laptop running MS Windows and ran chkdsk which fixed an indexing issue with the .INI file. I was able to see the trash-1000 folder through Windows Explorer and I just deleted it. Thanks for the advice anyway anonymous, much appreciated.

Hi all,

I've deleted lots of unneeded files off my External HDD, which then appeared in the wastebasket. All but one of these directories disappeared when I emptied the wastebasket, but one folder will not delete out.

I've emptied the /home/user/.local/share/Trash folder, via CLI and the 'sudo rm -Rrf *' command, but the folder is still in the Wastebasket. I tried restoring the folder so I could re-delete the file but no luck, it still refuses to budge.

The full path to the trash directories is:

trash:///1-RECYCLER/S-1-5-21-507921405-1708537768-299502267-500/De6/expunged/2919414475/S-1-5-21-2377650646-1378443379-3753086304-1000/$RM7V464/serioussam_se/Install/Mods/Warped/Scripts/Dedicated/DefaultTeamplay/1_BEGIN.INI

The .INI file deletes but re-appears everytime I re-enter the directory.

Not sure if I'm making much sense here, and I know it's not a major issue, but it's bugging the hell out of me! Anyone know of any solutions, or anyone come across this themselves?

Cheers,

Matty.

Hi all,

Just a quick question, not sure whether it's possible.

In the screenshot below you can see that I have aborder around my tint2 on the upper right of my desktop, with conky running top left horizontally.

Is there a way to extend the border around conky as well without affecting the panel and task placements?

I'm running #! on my acer aspire one. All works OTB, just a minor upgrade to madwifi with the wireless. Getting a boot time of ~30secs. Can browse t'interweb, email, whatch a movie and listen to music all at same time with 512mb ram. I'm finding the atom processor really nice. Ok, it's not as fast as a core2duo, but netbooks are nippy little machines. Mine is my main machine and I wouldn't swap for a bigger model (laptop or desktop).

#22 Re: Feedback & Suggestions » crunchbang 9.10 release » 2009-11-06 09:45:33

Well I'm back from giving Ubuntu karmic a try. I gave the Netbook Remix a test first, and then the full desktop version. Indeed it is very much a vista release, looks very pretty with the eye-candy but under the hood i was not impressed. Took me a grand total of 3 days of testing before I came back to good ol' #! 9.04.

Previously on Jaunty ubuntu I had a boot time of around 40 secs on my Acer Aspire One. With a clean install of Karmic the boot time increased to around 70 secs which was disgraceful seeing as though they said they had speeded up the boot process. (Other users have said they are getting faster boot times though, so might just be me.)

Whether it is or it isn't, it feels more bloated than jaunty. And I couldn't compile the madwifi drivers on the netbook remix, giving the same error as when I updated to the Kuki kernel, something about not being able to find the kernel/build directory.

However I am looking forward to a 9.10 #! release, as this has seemed to be the quickest and most stable distro I have used (and I've lost count how many I've tried over the last 6 months).

This post from the ubuntu forums seems to say it all:

#24 Re: CrunchBang Talk » Crunchbang + netbook » 2009-10-20 10:32:45

I'm running #! on my Acer Aspire One and it's probably the fastest distro out there apart from the linpus rubbish it shipped with.  From power on to a fully functioning desktop with wifi working is about 45 secs which kicks the behind of any other I've used, including kuki which was made specifically for the AAO. I currently run a dual boot system, the other distro swaps and changes as I decide to hop around (I'm currently trying Jolicloud). Doing it this way I can test other distros and always keep a fully functioning environment.

#25 Re: Help & Support (Stable) » Old Laptop RM A10 install » 2009-10-20 10:15:12

Hi mrgreen, #! should run fine on a machine with those specs, a lot of other users are running on similar specs with little or no problems. Best bet is try it and see if it works for you.
