I'm having a little trouble installing wine. I'm using waldorf with liquorix kernel

here's what i get when i try to install:

For the past 2 days, gdm seemed to hang up for me. It just won't show up, no tty session, just a blank screen. It takes me a couple of hard reboots to get to login.
The last modifying i did before that was to grub.cfg where i changed the way the plymouth looked like.
Has anyone else had this issue before ? Does anyone think it's the modifying to grub which could have caused this ?

I'm using the stater backports.

If this continues, will switching gdm to kdm/slim be advised ?
Is there some sort of log i can post here which would help solve this?

Yes. And I have yet to find a more convenient way to power down my external hard drives other than doing "udisks --detach /dev/sdX" after sync & unmounting... Especially as other people are using my netbook from time to time.

is that the same as "safely remove device" ?

when i try to copy stuff on to my usb, it copies to the drive but either gets stuck in the process for more than an hour or it ends and the files are corrupt, does anyone know how i could fix this ?
i have tried un/mounting several times.

2.6.32 is an older (but very stable) kernel. If you have brand-new hardware then there is a good chance you will benefit from a newer kernel. The easiest way to do this is enable "backports" which is well documented on these forums.

I have recently moved to crunchbang from ubuntu

Though it's real neat and light, there are a lot of times when my cpu is being used up a lot.before, encoding videos used to take at most 10 mins, now it takes upto a half hour,

Sometimes, my laptop hangs up when using codeblocks (never hung when i didn't use it though, not sure if it's cb) such that i cant use rseiub

and i can't monitor my cpu temperature ( i suppose thats to do with the 2.6.x kernel ) using acpitemp

does anyone recommend me upgrading my kernel ?

Or a more important question, Is it the kernel ?

Okay, i partially resolved it by uninstalling vmware
i installed what i wanted and then reinstalled it.
but i do not want to keep repeating this process over and over.

also i did not find any debian repo with vmware

during installation of vmware,
i tried this and got this error

then i tried

Hi everyone!
I'm Neil, from Philadelphia.
I'm fairly new to linux, been using ubuntu for a year and didn;t like unity. Tried fluxbox,liked it. Hated the cpu spikes at startup though. thus shifted to crunchbang.

oh and if someone else has this problem later on, i also replaced the default binary with the mitsubishi binary as it reduces cpu usage and has other patches.

I just moved to crunchbang from ubuntu
on ubuntu i had no problems running urban terror
but now on crunchbang, when i run it, i find it very hard to play
the game play is very bad and laggy even on local.
does anyone know if i had to do something before ?
hardware acceleration ?
