full HD scrots as were suggested in the first place are still no-go for me.
I didn't suggest full scrots, rather the large (500-640px) thumbs instead of those tiny ones where you can't see anything.

tried out Gnome3 once again, and it clicked. I think it's a pretty well done DE at this point. too bad it seems my laptop integrated intel card can't handle it, so I'll go back to openbox there, while considering moving to gnome on the desktop.
lol at how this thread evolved

looks like the layouts may be what I'm looking for. thanks!

I didn't think xterm supported tabs.
because it's terminator, sorry
(It might help to know which terminal emulator you are using...)
xterm
what do you mean by pushing motion?
funnily, I thought openbox would make me stay away from gnome, as it turns out, openbox got me used to doing more with the keyboard and gnome has great support for keyboard nav, only is sleeker. the lockscreen is so cool, great inspiration from android, win8 et al. one thing from the defaults that annoys me the most is alt+tab vs alt+`, but luckily there is an ext to fix it too
customization power ftw.

i've changed the accessibility icon to an 'xeye'the best thing is they are made with javascript and css. the barrier of entry is so low that there will be more and more of it every day. getting rid of that rounded corners is a quick css rule fix.
Dobbie03 wrote:Yeah you are right. I would upgrade to 3.8 but I am not sure there are that many compatible extensions yet.
I tried. most of them don't work yet. I don't know if it's a compatibility issue or just a hardcoded dependency rule (it's common with firefox extensions when you run on beta - most of them work when you disable compatibility check).
I think I will wait for more extensions to be compatible.
for the moment it's a good decision. I got instantly hooked to about 20 of them or so, and when I installed 3.8 only a few worked. current Ubuntu and Fedora have 3.6, I guess there will be more movement when U13.10 and F19 ship with 3.8.

for my dev work, I'd like to have a script:
- open terminal window
- terminal has 4 tabs
- every tab runs some commands
- switch to tab #4
has anyone of you done sth like that or could point me out how to approach this the easiest way? tx
The stupid curved edges at the top
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/ … d-corners/
as you can see on my screenshots above
I have no idea which hd scrots dumbed down to 100px are interesting.
ok, whatever, just asking.
ok. maybe at least some mercy for the screenshots threads? I mean, if it's a thead about screenshots, you go there to see screenshots

I've seen this around a few times

what are those slow connections exactly? anybody on dial-up here?
a lot of people think the servers market is a safe haven for debian, but it's losing a bit of ground there too. debian development will be alive and well, but it seems sooner or later debian will serve more as a platform for other distros to build upon than a standalone os.
newbie using the latest and greatest hardware, probably to feel leet
do you feel more leet assumming people who use other os are noobs?
Maybe at first Ubuntu did a lot...I'll give them the recognition factor...but as time goes on, they try to distance themselves more and more from being known as a Linux based operating system. I just went on their page and have yet to find the word Linux anywhere.
http://www.debian.org/ - no mention of linux
http://www.ubuntu.com/ - no mention of linux
http://www.debian.org/intro/about - 7 mentions of linux
http://www.ubuntu.com/about/about-ubuntu - 4 mentions of linux, debian page link in menu
They take from the upstream, but they don't contribute back....

The main selling point of Debian is stated as the first sentence at it's website:
Debian is a free operating system
a 'selling point' implies uniqueness. debian isn't the only one free operating system.
btw what do you all mean by 'old' hardware? mine is 4-5 years old and everything works just fine. most 7-8 year old cpus are already 64-bit. if by old you mean vintage aka really really really old and used for the sake of it (hobby, sentiment, etc), then it's your problem, not today's software suppliers.
is this party on the graveyard?
^ This. Debian Stable is not necessarily ideal for desktops where users may want the latest applications, but servers its a top choice.
yeah, because on servers we don't need new applications.
Unfortunately VirtualBox is bundled with Vagrant
no it isn't.
vagrant has ootb support for vbox, it doesn't come with it. and you can use it with other vms too http://docs.vagrantup.com/v2/providers/index.html
nvidia of course

[ 42475.613] there is quite a lot bug reports about xorg segfaulting on nvidia. got to ditch this crap, always something.
Can you reproduce this using a different window manager or DE?
it's a xorg crash, so it will probably work on any DE.
Any error messages from Chromium?
I had to install a 500mb chromium-browser-dbg package to get debugging for chromium, but currently I'm working so I can't test it.
