Alright according to the Debian Wiki,

the Ralink staging drivers were disabled at linux-2.6 2.6.35-1~experimental.3 and removed at Linux 3.0. See rt2800usb for device support

So I did and read

It is included in the mainline Linux kernel since version 2.6.31 and replaces the rt2870sta staging driver in Wheezy and later releases.1 Firmware is required and available in the firmware-ralink package...

Then I read this.

The rt2800usb kernel module is automatically loaded for supported devices. Configure your wireless interface as appropriate

So I'm like alright great, but I still can't get it work in live. x__X
When I lsusb my adapter is recognized as Asustek, but doesn't appear in iwconfig or network manager after modprobing rt2800usb or rtl8192cu.

I'm trying to connect my wireless usb in the live session, however the ralink firmware my adapter uses is installed by default, yet I can't modprobe it since i get an error saying FATAL module not found. Also I see what apears to be a fix according to http://wiki.debian.org/rt2870sta#Wheezy but I can't try it because I need greater permissions than what sudo provides to see if it works. If i'm going about this wrong or if someone could help in any other way it'd be appreciated.

One last thing, when I was using Chakra I used firmware rtl8192, but I see rt2870sta being used when I try to look up my problems elsewhere.
