A laptop with WinVista didn't have any problems connecting...

BTW This evening it works quite well. Connecting takes some times (probably due to the time-outs and firmware reloads). After the connection is made, everything works as expected.

Those are the most recent problems on rtl8188ce I could find. And it refers to a problem with the router firmware. So, I doubt that compiling the most recent kernel or using the most recent driver would change anything.

That way you will have the latest versions of the wireless drivers. Test if the problem is still there.

I am currently running the 3.3.0-rc1 kernel on an otherwise stable system without any problems.

I did the xxxxx myself...

I've read about the problem with reloading firmware on several forums when searching for the 8188ce card. Didn't find a solution.

Only one system connection configured. (sudo nm-connection-editor)

Connection has been good for the last few hours....

I'll do more tests tomorrow... reboot/reconnect/etc

I'm using network-manager...
I used 64bit without backports before.

Wireless is working, wifi strength is stable. Connecting takes some time (a minute or two). 
Ping does work, without packet loss.

I couldn't stand something not working under #!
So today I installed 64bit with bpo. It did install the realtek drivers by itself, didn't have to do so.
For some hours and several reboots wireless stays stable.... 

(Sorry, pvsage, for having another naggynog killed (or whatever they're called).)

No party yet, have to wait some more days (and decide if i'm willing to sell the laptop anyway). It was rather cheap (420 euros) and has a big harddrive (640 GB). If I want something similar I have to spend at least 500 euros and have a bit smaller harddrive.

Atheros or Intel wireless, Intel graphics. Avoid Broadcom, Realtek, Ralink, AMD and Nvidia like the plague. The rest is up to you.

Wireless still very buggy (most of the time not working).
