^^ Which version of Statler are you using? If "vanilla" stable, try the backports version - backports automatically gets a backported build of the current kernel. (If, like me, you need headers for the kernel that comes with the backports image - no longer available from the backports repo - please PM me and I'll see if I can hook you up.)

hi corenominal and gang,
will there be updated statler images going online anytime soon? it has been some months since the last build came out, and I know most people are focused on waldorf now but I'm looking for a stable system for work while needing the latest kernels for my relatively new laptop. the wireless card is not detected with the current version of statler.
Just wondering whether I should wait or get some help to get a newer kernel (without being connected) on the old build.
thanks.

Can I get some experiences related to the practical advantages of the newer kernel that comes with the bpo version over the 2.6.32 kernel in the stable version? Anyone had a chance to work with both versions that could provide some practical insights - any real noticeable differences? Or is it completely dependent on what hardware is being used?

I'd like to upgrade to a more modern kernel (currently using liquorix 2.6.32-2dmz 5 on acer 1830), though it's not too important to have cutting edge versions of software if there's no real advantage and possible breakage. I can't find it, but I thought I remembered reading something about the newer kernel generally running cooler, fixing some heat related issues on laptops.

Nice info there ivan. On the other side of the spectrum, maybe there should be an #! sid version ?
I say this with the following thoughts; Openbox is quite a stable beast (not like some DE's I won't mention) and I experienced two problems (at least), first vlc 1.1.3 doesn't play webm video's (and I have some webm already) and I would like to update to the latest, and in another machine (same version with signature) I had to update my hplib to unstable (whatever) to get the printer working because it needed the newer driver and it "broke" vlc (now asks to update/download the whole system to testing or unstable, I am not sure).]

I merely state the observations that were most obvious when I tried out the 20120207 release.
I didn't really Know what to expect when I installed it, my feedback is simply a statement of
my experience. I got some cool newer updated apps, though it was a tradeoff. That's simply
my observation, it's not a condemnation of the update. Phillip stated that there might be some
eyeopeners when he put the release out as I recall. My observation/s center around the fact that
"Gee... looks like there are some dependency issues here, hmmm..." Nothing more, feedback was
asked for, so I gave what I saw to be something I did Not see in 20110207 "Really Stable"! ;^)

I wan't used to seeing messages from apt / synaptic like this: The "pakage" requires the "package",
but it's "Not going to be Installed" (Emphasis Mine!) This created a certain amount of research into
"forcing versions", et al, which was a real eyeopener! ( for Me) at least. So... I posted what I found.
Moral for me is Stability wasn't all That Bad!
