I was tempted to try some Linux distro as soon as possible and a friend of mine told me about Crunchbang, a lightweight distro that would run just fine on my computer. Although #! works out-of-the-box, without requiring any complex configuration, I'm learning a lot about Linux in general.

I'm currently testing a live version of CrunchBang 11 Waldorf and it seems like it's going to be the perfect system for my old machine.

#! works great! Only issue is that the volume keys don't work out of the box and only one speaker was working.

I'm running a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ240E laptop, with a hard drive from a newer laptop, and upgraded to 4 gigs of RAM. Oh yeah, and with my favorite upgrade: taping pin 20 to prevent Sony's buggy wireless switch from shutting off the wireless card.

Not my main laptop, but I got it for free (as in free beer.)  Dropped waldorf x64 on it to play.  Officially sitting at work not doing a damn thing that's work related, but I'm typing...so nobody asks questions.

Had fun, obviously no USB Boot option, which provided a small hiccup, especially when I realised that the installer was larger than a cd-rom and I have no DVD drive. Works great now. Much stabler than the crusty XP install that was on here.
