Darkilouche, An Alternative to Gilouche

One thing I forgot to mention yesterday, the Darkilouche theme is a dark variation of the openSUSE theme, Gilouche by Jakub Steiner and Garrett LeSage. You can see some nice screenshots of Gilouche in action over on Joe's blog.

Thanks for sharing Joe :)

I really like Darkilouche, and I have been using it as the default theme on my systems since discovering it a few months ago…

With all the talk of a "Dark and Orange" theme for 8.04, I've wondered why this isn't a contender…why re-create the wheel?

I've been wondering about this too. I've been lurking on the Ubuntu art list for a number of months and I've not seen it mentioned. Maybe it's not considered due to the openSUSE connection? Or maybe artists like to start from scratch? Either way, I've been trying quite a few dark themes over the last few days and Darkilouche is about the only one I've found that works well; all the others I tried made browsing the web a near impossibility, mainly due to their inverted colour schemes.

I've got a feeling that making a "workable" dark theme isn't as easy at it might look.

Just posted to the ubuntu-art list - lets see if it starts any chatter.

I agree about some Dark Themes making web-browsing impossible. I tried "Darklooks" and I just can't stand the "black" test boxes, and I have found a few sites where I couldn't read text.

Sometimes things look fine and dandy in a "mockup" or just a screenshot showing a desktop or a few apps, but Darkilouche is a dark theme that actually works across the board, and it does seem to be popular!
